SV Sandhausen - 1.FC Kaiserslautern

Both stadiums are only 100 kilometers apart, so that one can speak of a derby. But this derby shows different situations as well. First we have newcomer Sandhausen who is 4 points behind Dynamo Dresden and with a win they can close the gap to one point and put them in a much better situations as at the moment. This would maybe bring back the faith and give an extra boost. On the other side stands giant Kaiserslautern who is in a good position in promotion race for third place but only one point ahead. Therefore they have to win this one additionally. And moreover with a win they can go with a small advantage in the next big encounter on friday where they face Cologne in their stadium for a very important match.

Bottom team Sandhausen face a lot of problems above all their have huge persoanl problems at the moment. Sure this is not the right time as the season goes into the showdown now. At national break coach Boysen had only 12 healthy players available in training. And it looks not much better today. To the 2-2 against Aalen defender Pischorn returns, also Kim Falkenberg is an option as back wing and if Schauerte can move into the midfield again. Sure out is Klotz because with some strain problems. He can be replaced from Wooten who should be huge motivated because he is on loan from Kaiserslautern. Upfront will play Mäkelä and David Ulm can be an option on the wing who gives them a bit more flexibility with his creative play.

Kaiserslautern celebrated a deserved 3-0 win against Ingolstadt at home two weeks ago  The team played well so no major changes expected. Coach Foda hopes more that they can let their scoring problems behind now and with this win and with goals from both strikers hopefully they can continue this way. Maybe the friendly match against 1860 Munich which was won 4-1 gives more hope as both scored here too. It seems that they are back in business. But if the problems returns today, what I am not expecting coach Foda has a lot to choose because with excellent striker Hoffer, midfielder Köhler and Drazan he has a lot on bench.

According to the match plan that both teams are almost in a must win situation, it is hard to see no goals here. If one team take the lead this match can be strechted wide open. Normally Sandhausen is not a team who can not create some above all at home and they scored in almost all home matches while Kaiserlsautern has returned to their aggressive penetration power. I am sure here, goals will come, sooner or later. GL

1.FC Köln - Jahn Regensburg

The first match between both clubs was memorable because Regensburg leads until 87. Minute 2-0 but lost in the end 2-3.  Regensburg dominated this match very well and should have deserved the win but it turned out differently. Now, some month later they face each other again but things are much more changed. Home side is the best team in 2013 and close to promote while Regensburg is almost relegated.

Cologne want not underestimate their todays opponent as they know exactly what happened some time ago. Therefore they want continue their good run and put some pressure on Kaiserslautern who plays in Sandhausen. While on friday the big match between both promotion candidates take place in Kaiserslautern. First, however they have to do their home work both. More than 43.000 supporters are expected and this can be an extra boost for Cologne as well today. After the last win against Dresden 2-0 where they had a lof of luck because Dresden played well and had some good chances but wasted and Cologne use two counters for the win in the end are no major changes expected. Both slight injured players Clemens and Ujah are very doubtful for today. It means a big blow for Cologne because both were in good form and are very important for the team. While Clemens can be replaced by Jajalo is no replacement available for Ujah. In this case Stanislawski has to change his system and play only with Maierhofer upfront. Central midfielder Lehmann is back in squad but Strobl with good performances could not move out of the team therefore Lehmann has to sit on bench or if Ujah is sure out, he comes in.

Regensburg changed a lot in winter break so maybe Cologne does not know all and the starting lineup is different to the first match betwenn both. But not all are in good shape or did their jobs. Top striker Sembolo search for his form at the moment and he is only bench player now as with Koke they signed a new striker in the break and he scored twice already. He looks in good shape and is one of their hopes today. Many expecting the same lineup what they field already against Aue. But they have to do changes as with imp. defender Laurito they miss one of their heads in team injured. For him Nachreiner is an option but not so good as Laurito in my eyes. Also Rahn seems to be to make his comeback today.

Fortuna Düsseldorf - Bayer Leverkusen

What a hype in Düsseldorf after their return to 1.Bundesliga and above all as they started very well into the season and showed that they more as able to competed with all the other teams in Bundesliga. They were on a very good way and stayed away from relegation trouble thus they could work very relaxed and no one put any pressure on them. After the winter break things changed a bit and they are on a huge downtrend, they are not able to win matches anymore and that is why they getting more and more in trouble and come under pressure. Of course they are some points ahead of Augsburg but it is getting closer and closer. Only their good home performances make some hopes for remaining in 1BL. If they do not want to get in trouble they have to collect points but better they have to win again. Their style of play is more designed for fast counter attacks and this is their weapon this season. This looks mostly like this that they are defending with almost all men, but if they have taken the ball they turn around to offensive quickly. Although they are more a fighter team as an elegant passing one. With Bodzek they miss an important midfielder worker.

Ups, what happened to Leverkusen? They were on 2^nd place at winter break but lost almost all their advantage and are down to third place now. Borussia Dortmund overcomes them very easy as they are not able to play such a good style as they did in first half of the season. Maybe many matches in EL had made them a bit tired. Now they had one week rest, almost all players were in training because not many on international duty therefore the Bayer Coaches could prepare very well for the big derby against Düsseldorf. This is sorely needed, because the last performance was not particularly good, and the results tend to be quite bad. With 5 matches without a win in a row they have to turn things around away from home indeed as soon as possible. With players like Castro, Schürrle, Kießling and …. they should be able to hurt the opponents anyway. Sure it depends all on the players fitness and these was not always the best in the past. Of course they had a lot of bad luck too but if they can continue their play it will change sooner or later.

Both teams should be huge motivated for this derby but I see some advantage for the away side. They have the much better players and they could prepare well as mentioned above. Of course, on the other side Düsseldorf is very good at home but in the past with a downtrend and they were not able to play their counter attacks to end and finished not often.

VfB Stuttgart - Borussia Dortmund

VfB Stuttgart is one of the weakest sides in second half oft he season. They got not much and looked very tired in the past matches. Of course because they have a very small squad and with 42 matches in their legs so far their freshness is gone. Maybe the one week rest help them a bit to recover and also the knock out of the European League. Now they can take their main focus to Bundesliga where they are close to drop zone but with an important win in bag against Frankfurt where no one expected put them a bit out of trouble.. This win gave them some self confidence back and also they saw that they can win matches even if they work as team and put all effort in. At home they are not so good as on the road, maybe this is more that their offensive players need some space and like it more to bring in their quickness like both wings with Harnik and Traore have. If they can create some and give lone striker Ibisevic some opportunities in the box it is more as possible that he score. On the other side they have to minimize their mistakes in defensive because according to this they lost some matches although they were good in the game. And today they have some problems to field a good eleven because with Okazaki, Tasci, Torun, Cacau and Bah are injured while Kvist and Molinaro are suspended.

After not such a good first half of the season Dortmund managed it to overcome Leverkusen because of their weak phase in the past matches. But nevertheless they are close behind and Dortmund can not allow losing points as their real target it to save second place. Despite an important champions league match ahead they have to put the main focus on this encounter. If we compare both teams it is more as obvious who is the favorite in this one. With such a great offensive Stuttgart can get a lot of problems above all if the train continues like in the past. With players like Götze, Reus, Lewandowski, Kuba (doubtful) or Gündogan, Sahin they can create many and sooner or later they score because of their class it is hard to control or hold them down the whole match. Coach Klopp got an alternative more because Sahin showed two weeks ago that he is on a good way and can return to his old shown performances in Dortmund jersey.

Of course, it is always a bit difficult after a break to find back on the level they had before but overall I am very keen that they can. I mentioned already that Dortmund’s offensive looks great while Stuttgart’s defensive is always able to do some mistakes in defensive and if Dortmund put a lot of pressure on them I doubt that they are not able to score some. Sure If they are up 2-0 they looking forward to the important match in CL. This maybe can be a bet crusher but depends on how close the match is.

FC Ingolstadt - MSV Duisburg

It seems that MSV Duisburg was very exciting to see both bottom candidates Aue and Dresden losing on Thursday. This put them in a very good position with this match in their hand, if they can get anything here it would be very helpful anyway. They can take advantage and make the distance to the relegation places bigger. On the other side Ingolstadt with 35 points almost safe and they have no possibilities up or down.

But sure, they want the points at home, if they able is maybe not possible as they had a lot of problems in their stadium to win matches. Also against a deep standing team as MSV is today I think they get a lof of problems again. Some problems for them because with Mijatovic and Caiuby they miss two starters suspended. Coach Oral thinks to replace them with Biliskov and Korkmaz. More changes are possible as Görlitz was not on his best level while Danny da Costa returns. Also Micanski is not sure to start.

 MSV has also some problmes because with Sukalo is again an important midfielder out. On the other side returns Julian Koch from suspension but coach Runjaic wants to count on Perthel and Öztürk who made their things good against Energie Cottbus. Therefore Koch must sit on bench first. Not more changes expected because they did well in the past and after the winter break they fight in every match till the end and they got some reward back already. With this attitude they are very hard to beat.

Overall we have a team who is average at home, win less matches and on the other side we have a team who fights very well against relegation and they are on a very good way, moment. As I mentioned after the break, MSV is very hard to play, therefore I think they can hurt Ingolstadt.

Erzgebirge Aue - 1860 München

Different aims before this encounter. Erzgebirge Aue needs points against relegation trouble because they are only 4 points ahead while 1860 Munich needs the win to close the gap from 6 points to third place. If they get only a draw it is almost impossible for returning in promotion race. Therefore they have to risk a bit more here if they want to put some pressure on the other teams above.

After one win and one draw Coach Baumann made it and was able to turn things around otherwise he would not be Coach from Aue anymore. He has to fight big for his job some weeks ago. But nevertheless they are not safe and therefore they need points to stay away from drop zone. Their home advantage can be the key in this relegation battle because they are very hard to beat at home soil. Furthermore their pitch conditions are not the best anyway and some of their opponents had a lot of problems with it, it would be not much good this time as the winter returned. Coach Baumann can count on almost all players, also important Hochscheidt is back in training and ready for this match while with Munteanu and Paulus are two players out + Schlitte suspended. Additional not clear is if striker Sylvestr stands in starting lineup. Many outside person criticized him for his harmlessness in front of the goal but Baumann sees it much more different and mentioned that he works a lot for the team and sooner or later he will score again.

Some trouble in Munich, as always 1860 produces some negative headlines. A change at the top of the club, with President Schneider must go Investor Ismaiks enemy. It seems that the Iraqi has won the fight now. The management traveled to Dubai to win Ismaik for more Millions to reach promotion aim earlier. Sure, for this season it is only a bit hope left but if they want to hold the pressure high they must win against Aue. This would be a very hard task as they never won before in Aue, with 0-3-3 they are winless there and they scored not much too. Of course after a lot of changes, which were not always found great acceptance Coach Schmidt has probably found the right mix. They are hard to beat in defensive but they are also very limited in offensive and were not able to score much. It depends almost all on Benny Lauth up front, if he is not in the game or has a bad day it is very hard to see 1860 Munich in a good position.

If we compare both teams, it looks like we copy paste only. Both teams have problems to score goals, but are very solid in defensive. This means that the match is getting very close and if one team can take the lead it is very hard for a comeback for the other side. But in my eyes 1860 Munich has to risk much more if they want to stay in touch to third place. It would be very hard anyway and therefore I favor much more Aue on their bad pitch. They know this situation much more while 1860 Munich has very good conditions in Allianz Arena and can play much more their passing style there.

Dynamo Dresden - 1.FC Köln

When bottom team Dresden hosts 1.FC Köln today, this match is from enormous importance for both to end up 26. Round. While Dynamo could leave with a win the relegation place, will Cologne close the gap again because with the win from Kaiserslautern on Sunday they are 4 points behind but they want to counter it. Motivation and self confidence should be high for Dresden, won they still against leader and top team Hertha BSC two weeks ago here, while Cologne got only a draw by FSV Frankfurt.

Despite the lose against Erzgebirge Aue 0-1 last weekend coach Pacult will let his team probably unchanged or possibly make a few personnel changes. Almost clear seems that midfielder Losilla plays again as central back although he was not innocent on goal against Aue. While Christian Fiel and David Solga likely remaining on the double-six again. Also captain Pote who is now 1227 minutes without a goal is set as starter. Maybe Coach Pacult remember that he scored in first leg as Dynamo got a 1-1 draw in Cologne. However beside him could start youngster Tobias Müller instead of Kitambala. Moreover Pavel Fort could be an option as second striker as well.

At Cologne it is unclear whether coach Stanislawski act again with two attackers or hold on last weeks successfully practiced 4-3-2-1 against Paderborn where they won 3-0. The only certainty is that Jonas Hector (harmstring) will be replaced as left back most likely from Christian Eichner. In midfield the last strong Matuschyk and Strobl remain not only because of the injury of Lehmann (he was suspended against Paderborn anyway), while Jajalo has to be anxious about starting today. According to his weak performance the Croatian is the first choice if coach Stanislawski count on two attackers. The Austrian has recovered from his infection and he could start beside Ujah again. This variant is not excluded.

Bor. M'Gladbach - Hannover 96

Very important match for both sides because with a win they can close the gap already to top the top 6 and their aim getting closer. Both started this season in EL but both are already out of this competition therefore they are trying to get this feeling next season again. Gladbach played solid in the past matches and they are very hard to beat at home anyway. With their excellent style of play they can hurt almost all opponents, what is a bit different today as both teams almost like the counter play but one of them must come out and try a little bit more from beginning on. This can keep a lot of space to the other team. But nevertheless Gladbach scored in all their home matches so far and I do not doubt that they are not able to do this job again against Hannover who is a very weak side away from home where they conceded a lot so far. Sure Gladbach should not waste like they did against Gladbach and Bremen where Mlapa had always the big chance to decide this but missed. Midfielder Marx is back from suspension and ready for today but it is not sure if Favre wants to change or let Xhaka in the starting lineup.

Very strong home team but very weak away from home, this can be the key for Hannover to miss the EL places this season. They got only 7 points on the road in 12 matches. This is far to less to play for an upper spot. According to their mistakes in defensive they are not able to keep a clean sheet in 11 matches, the only one they managed it was first match against Wolfsburg 4-0. All the others they are very unstable, maybe some excuse with so many matches in their legs but if they want to be a top team they have to manage it. The offensive looks very good from Hannover with excellent players and they are always able to create or score in any situations. This is one of their advantage but sometimes they are to focus on offensive and forget the defensive. 

As both teams are on top with their scoring efficient (Gladbach 32,1 and Hannover 35,9 = best value in Bundesliga) I like the goals here. Hannover conceded always, Gladbach scored always at home, and if one team take the lead this match is very open and both teams like the counter attacks what give a lot of opportunity in 90. minutes. Both need the win if they want to keep EL hopes alive, therefore we can expect an open match.

Eintracht Frankfurt - VfB Stuttgart

Newcomer Frankfurt played a really great first half of the season and they are one of the surprises this season beside some others. Unfortunately, they have lost more or less of their freshness or maybe their opponents know their style of play now and how they are controlled. But this is not the complete truth as I see some changes in tactic and maybe system too. They started very well into the season and played a really great offensive style where they like to win more 3-2 as 1-0. Their fresh and carefree actions overcome almost all opponents but this is gone. They faced some problems in the past matches and they were not able to return to their style of play as coach Veh changed a bit and try to give more attention on their defensive therefore they lost their offensive power. They did not score in 505 minutes now, so it is not surprising if they do not win matches. Also some of the teams who were much behind them close the gap and they need more than ever to win matches if they want to remain under top 6. Against Hannover they played very well and they showed some nice actions although the match was very average but the uptrend was seen and therefore I am absolutely sure that they turn things around and score again. Also against Gladbach they invest a lot but were not able to bring the ball over the line.

What a disaster for VfB Stuttgart 2013, of course they are still in almost all competitions but they are very weak at the moment.  Euro League they are in quarter final but knock out against Lazio Rom now, German Cup they stands in semi-final against Freiburg and this is maybe their last change to reach EL again but they have to advance to the final and hope that they face Bayern Munich then. This means that they are qualified immediately without winning the final. In league they had an absolutely great position at winter break but after getting not much 2013 they fall down huge. They are the weakest side 2013 with only 4 points collected. Their style of play looks very unstable and if some players not at 100% or have the right attitude it is hard to win. Additional problem should be that they play their 42 matches this season. They are not as fresh as they should be and with EL match in their legs again it is hard to see them getting much. Moreover they produce to many mistakes in their play and in defensive and always good to concede anyway. This makes it not much easier for them.

Nevertheless I am very keen on both teams and I am absolutely sure that they stop their goalless streak today. Frankfurt showed an uptrend anyway and it is only a matter of time that they score again. Inui, Meier, Aigner and Lakic should be able to create some and finish as well. They are fresh enough against a unstable and tired defensive from Stuttgart. And if they force their offensive play a bit more it is also possible that Stuttgart gets some space for some counter attacks what they love much more. Their wings with Traore and Harnik and upfront Ibisevic can hurt Frankfurt then. Overall I like the goals here although both are not so in scoring modus but the confidence for a turnaround is there.

1.FC Kaiserslautern - FC Ingolstadt 04

With the draw against Braunschweig last monday has Kaiserslautern at least one point lead over Köln preserved before this round. In order to permanently maintain the third place they should win matches immediately because after 4 winless matches and only one goal scored they must find the right way back on track. FC Ingolstadt is a strong team away certainly not a pleasant opponent, especially since the Schanzer could move with a win at the Betzenberg within three points closer.

But the draw in Braunschweig brought some hope back to Manager, Fans, Coach, Team that they can hold third place and let 1860, Union, Cottbus on distance. All the other weeks Cologne played earlier as Kaiserslautern and put a lot of pressure on them with their wins, this time it is different because Kaiserslautern plays today while Cologne plays a difficult game in Dresden on monday. With a win it is more than possible to put a lot of pressure on Cologne now. For this Coach Foda is likely to send the same lineup out as on monday. But it was a bit of surprise to see Simunek instead Borysiuk and Heintz instead of Köhler in starting lineup. But both worked well and they were much better as Braunschweig and should have deserved a bit more but they wasted a lot with their opportunities. The defensive worked well in the past matches therefore the offensive has to improve a lot now. This is only because both strikers looked a bit out of form but hopefully they find back now.

Also Thomas Oral are set to give the same lineup from last match against Bochum a chance. This mens managed the first win after some month without success, exactly since November. Above all VfL Bochum specialist Caiuby scored the winning goal. He likes to play against and he scored in almost all matches against. Maybe Coach Oral is thinking if he can bring Micanski against his former team because players are always very motivated against former teams and sometimes they score too. But let's see what happen, if he comes in Hartmann is out then. Overall is Ingolstadt a very hard nut to beat, they are not easy to play anyway. It is no coincidence that they are much stronger away than at home.

First match was one way from Kaiserslautern and they wasted a lot in this encounter, Bunjaku, and Idrissou had a lot of opportunities to win this comfortably but they took the lead and in the end they conceded the equalizer. It was a huge difference in this one but sure, Ingolstadt played at home where they are not as successful as on the road. Kaiserslautern push for sure and Ingolstadt try to go for counter, I think that this is an open matches where goals can be. Therefore I like the OVER, where the line is not so high.

1.FC Nürnberg - FC Schalke 04

I wrote a lot from Nürnberg this season and it has not changed much as they won in Augsburg and could bring some extra points between them and bottom teams. Therefore they are 10 points ahead and should be without any trouble. They are on the longest run with 8 unbeaten matches so far. This can change as I am not so sure if they are able to beat Schalke. If they score only one it is very hard to beat this opponent as they are for sure very dangerous. 

Almost same run from Nürnberg, 2013 they lost only one match and this was in Dortmund where they never had any chance. On the other side they are very positive 2013 but could only win one match so far, the others were all draws. They are not able to win matches but they are very hard to play in the past as their defensive worked better and better and in this case they are very hard to beat at the moment. Overall they are much better at the moment on the road as at home as they can sit back and count on their counter attacks where both wings are able to overcome their opponent because of their quickness. One more weapon they have is free kicks or corners from Kiyotake who is very dangerous in this matter. If I compare the last away matches I am very confident about Nürnberg, they had no problems with good team from Frankfurt who has a lot of offensive power but they were close to beat them, vs. Stuttgart they played also a bit better and equalized in second half deserved and had additional some chances to win this as well. They are just close to be rewarded for their effort, sooner or later. It is only a matter of time. Coach Wiesinger and Reutershahn did and do a great job so far.

The same here, I copy past this from Schalke's last match as they are almost on the same level at the moment although they knocked out from Champions League under the week against Galatasaray and this hurt a lot. Also they are without their key striker Huntelaar but Pukki had some good actions against Gala. If Schalke can continue their play from past matches I am sure that they are able to beat this side from Nürnberg.
After a very long time without success, Schalke seems to be on the way back. I mentioned already that I am not a fan from Coach Keller but I must admit that he has probably achieved a turnaround. It was not very easy for him because with each bad performance or lost match he had huge headwind of the media. Launch was just the important Champions League game in Istanbul against Galatasaray who brought the turn. They had a very good performance on this day and it was more as deserved that they got a draw. Against Düsseldorf they played not so well and their problems in offensive were already huge but overall they managed to win this with two goals from defender Matip after free kicks. This victory has probably helped a lot that Coach Keller could work in peace and he prepared the team extremely well for Wolfsburg. This was one of the best performances from them in the past weeks / month. It was very good to see if they have a lot of space that they do much better because their fast wings Farfan / Bastos like this style of play but especially Draxler was outstanding as centrale man in midfield. He played very well and was one of the key facts to win this encounter very easy with 4-1. With two wins in a row they close the gap and they are more than capable to get this important fourth place.

Nevertheless I think that Schalke has the better moment and can win this as with Draxler, Farfan, Bastos they have some very good players in their rows how can make the difference. Nürnberg to limited and only dangerous with free kicks form Kiotake, also their long run in home matches should end.

1860 München - Hertha BSC Berlin

1860  Munich are close to third place, with only 4 points their are in a very good position for the last matches but they should try to win this otherwise it is gone for promotion hopes. They close the gap a bit but this is only due to their good away performance as at home they are average to weak. Their last home win was 4 month ago. No good sign before the encounter agianst leader Hertha BSC because they lost first match already easy with 0-3. After this lose against Hertha they fall down huge and they did not get much in the following matches, in this case they hope for better future now. It is more than doubtful that they can beat Hertha who has the best offensive and best defensive too, they need an excellent day nothing else. But they have some hopes as the stats speaks for 1860 in their Arena, because Hertha lost all 3 matches in Munich in the past.

1860 coach Schmidt can choose from almost all and this makes things easier for them anyway. Only fast wing Halfar is out with suspension but he was replaced from Tomasov in the past, and he scored the winning goal in Sandhausen. Maybe a good sign as well. Also Nicu is out while Makos was ill and is a doubt here. But overall not change against the last match and therefore he can count on the same lineup. Also some former Hertha players in their rows with Kiraly, Freind and Fathi these guys should be motivated additional. All hope for the win to hold the pressure high.

On the other side Hertha BSC Berlin face a lot of problems because some important players are not available. They miss with Kluge, Ndjeng, Niemeyer and Brooks 4 players from starting lineup. How coach Luhukay want to change his team and get the right players on the pitch is open at the moment. He does not mentioned on what he count only he said that Janker and Hubnik are back in sqaud for today. But some good news as well because with keeper Kraft who was ill against Duisburg and Ramos (sub against MSV with knee injury) are two important players back too. In central back seems Mike Franz the first alternative while for the double sixer position in midfield he has much more to choose. Also open is if Schulz starts again or Ben Hatira returns in starting lineup.

Of course I know, 1860 is weak at home and score less, but with the problems from Hertha and with a lof of changes that must be made according to their absent players it is not sure if they are such stable again now. This gives some opportunities to 1860 and Hertha is always good for goals above all with their excellent offensive.

SC Paderborn - FSV Frankfurt

What a great success and season from Paderborn last year. They played really great soccer and this although with less money they have for transfers. They have to go down with their budget this season again but they showed that they again able to play a good role in this league but they are not in such good position as last year. Some problems in defensive and also with a lot of injuries stopped them to get a better place right now. Sure they have potential in their squad but at the moment they look not very good. They played good first half in Cologne but in second half they lost their good attitude and with 0-3 they were a deserved loser. Overall what I see they do much better on the road as on home soil. They have huge problems to win matches, maybe this is because they are much better to play on counter attacks as to push and take pressure on a deep standing team. Another key fact is that they are not able to win matches against teams ahead of them, all their three wins they collected were against weaker teams behind them. Against Bochum 4-0, Sandhausen 3-0 and Aue 2-0. All the other encounter they draw or lost. This is maybe due to their weak scoring performances, because 5 times they score only a single goal, 3 times zero and only one time 2 goals but they got only a draw there against Dresden. All you can see is that they have a lot of problems in front of the goal. What make things not easier is that this week some players have the flu and they could not train much, keeper Kruse is very doubtful here. 

FSV stay in touch to place three and they are able to hold the pressure high at the moment above all after their good performance against Aalen where they won easy 6-1 and showed that they are more than able to score. They are very hard to play away from home anyway. This means that they are very hard to crack and a hard nut for Paderborn, and I am sure that they have the weapons to overcome Paderborn too. With one of their best season in 2.Bundesliga they are far away from any trouble and they can play very easy at the moment because their are safe and no one expect something from them. Their target is almost reached with avoiding relegation, sure some points needed as with 40+ you can say absolutely safe. Coach Möhlmann hold the pressure high and the team looks very good prepared for this encounter. The mood is very well, self confidence and motivation too. Away from home they scored in almost all their matches and they showed that they are more than able to score not only one rather two possible as well. With Heubach, Jönsson and Heitmeier they have some missings but these were not in the starting lineup against Aalen anyway.

Overall I see FSV Frankfurt with a huge advantage here as they come from a excellent win who push them additional while Paderborn has some problems and do very hard to win matches at home. This can keep FSV in a very good position for this match. I am very confident that they are able to get here anything. GL

Union Berlin - FC St. Pauli

Key for Union was that they were not able to get more away from home otherwise they had a much better position as at the moment. They are only strong at home where they euphoric fans push them a lot. Additional they are to overdependent from some players. If these guys are not available they have a lot of problems and their attitude is not the best sometimes anyway.
Some weeks ago St. Pauli were in trouble but they managed the situation. Of course they are not safe but has some distance to the bottom places now. Although they are on a good way they face some problems for this encounter because with best striker Ginczek they miss an important player who was able for ensure goals. With Buchtmann and Schindler are two other players out with injury but they are long term. 
The record speaks for St. Pauli who could win 3 matches by 2 draws and 1 lose in 7 matches.

MSV Duisburg - Energie Cottbus

The situation was much worse some time ago but with the win against Braunschweig they did a great step out of the drop zone. This means that they are a bit ahead of the bottom teams but they should not cool down much as this can change huge. The focus should be high to go for the next win, and with Brandy a specialist against Cottbus in their rows. He loves to play against Energie as he had a lot of success against. All at Duisburg hopes for the next great show from the midfielder against Cottbus what help them a lot. With Koch suspended and Kern they miss two guys.
Cottbus are still in the race for third place but they should get all points if they want to hold the pressure on Kaiserslautern or Köln high. In the past they had some problems to score but they solved it already. But with Börner and Bittroff they miss two starters suspended. But overall coach Bommer can count on a good lineup.
MSV could win 2004 against Cottbus 2-0 but are winless in 3 now, it follows two draws and one lose.

Erzgebirge Aue - Dynamo Dresden

Is this his last match on the line?

This is the 83th match the two against eacht other and current a very important one as well. It is a very difficult situation for both because both need points as they are with 24 points neigbours in table on 15. and 16. Place. As always this matches is called as a „six point match“ but not a decision yet. Sure an important step for one of them who win this but not more. Dresden got some self confidence and motivation back and also a huge boost with the win against top team Hertha BSC while Aue is more and more searching for their form. They are under huge pressure today because if they lose this coach Baumann will be sucked as president Lässig already mentioned in an interview. This makes the situation not much easier as everyone knows now that the coach is down fort he count in public.

Although Baumann responded with understanding but he does not know how the team responds today. It is all in their hand now, what do they want? Working with this coach or not, if not, easy they must not spend much to lose and a new one come. Want they continue with him it would be a very hard nut anyway and with their current form, it is very hard to see them winning. Too weak were their performances in the past and as always they have a lot of problems to score goals. It looks more as they are very helpless at the moment and with no self confidence also the motivation down how should they win matches. They only good thing is that he has all players available for today.

With the win against leader Hertha BSC Dresden see some light again and they are close to safe zone. If they win, they can overcome Aue and they change the position and if Bochum and MSV lose they can overcome them too. Their head is free now and they are very hot to play this match and win in the end. They saw that they are able to win and also to turn things around. Maybe Pacult had need some time but he has find the right word and balance now. He has with Savic and Gueye two players not available but he can choose from a lot.

Of course Aue is known for their home strength but I do not count much on this as they were very bad in the past. They are on a huge downtrend while Dresden showed some uptrend and I see them better prepared as Aue. They are very hard to beat on the road anyway. They style of play is more for away matches as at home therefore I count on them.

FC Ingolstadt - VfL Bochum

With a win Ingolstat can close the gap to third place to 5 points while Kaiserslautern plays in Braunschweig on monday. Sure they talk not from promotion or anything else but a bit of dreaming is allowed. But should take their full attention on their opponent today because they are on a huge streak at home. Since middle of november they have not won at home now, their last win was in derby against Regensburg 4-2. Therfore they are on a 5 matches run without a win at home. They want to turn this and with their lovely opponent from Bochum it looks like that they can. The record is very good against with 3-1-1 in 5 league matches in the past. But it is never an easy one as Bochum showed against Kaiserslautern what they are able to bring at the moment and they showed some good form too. A lot of chances wasted and overall the win would have been deserved.

Against 1860 Munich coach Oral has to change one time because with Danny da Costa is one injured and his replacement with Görlitz is ready. Also back in squad after suspension is captain Stefan Leitl. He is very important in offensive and maybe they got a boost with him now and getting more dangerous again at home. No more changes expected therefore some of the new guys or others has to wait for their need.

No worries after the good matches against Kaiserslautern and therefore Coach Neitzel counts on the same team who were very good. Because with Sinkiewicz, Freier, Aydin and Ortega are again some out and not available. Only Dedic returns after injury and he should help to use the chances they create. With 4 goals he is top scorer for Bochum, I think this says all. But Scheidhauer fight a lot in the past and is not set to move on bench now, maybe Dedic is there as joker.

Of course Ingolstadt is very weak at home and they collected only 3 wins there and are on a huge streak without a win there anyway while Bochum played very well on the road and look very strong in their play. But nevertheless I want to go against the market and count on home side. Sooner or later they win why not today? It speaks all for Bochum, but Bochum are on a huge run away without a lose. Two teams on a different way face each other, this is the right time for a turnaround. I take the risk with -0,25 but I am sure, if lose then only half but I doubt.

Bor. M'Gladbach - Werder Bremen

The international Stage is past as against Lazio they could not prevail and are out of the international competition now. Therefore only league left where they are on a good way as they looked much better in the past matches again. They celebrated some wins and close almost the gap to top 6. At this time they are 2 points behind but they have all in their hands and are able to get an international starting place for next season. Sure, they have to continue now and they should successful as much as they can or get as much points as they can. Maybe they have found back to their normal strength from last season as they are playing much better now. Coach Favre has found the right mix in team and also count not on the players from beginning of the season. Because Xhaka, Daems or Hanke are more or less only subs and on bench at the moment while young talented player Younes is the new hero at Gladbach. Also others like old Marx or Wendt brought a lot of stability in their play. Seems Gladbach has needed some time after losing so many important players from last season. But nevertheless they are back in business now and this team understand it very well how to hurt opponents or overcome them.

It is currently not a good climate in Bremen, because they are in the biggest crisis of the last years. They are on a huge downtrend and no one knows how to get out of this bad situation. Coach Schaaf is not in question, but a lot of work to do, especially the new Sport Manager Eichin is required to solve all problems. Most recently I had the impression that no fire is in the team and they give up too quickly. This may also have to do with some problem with injured players, changes in affiliated and some players out of form as well. Additional in some matches they played well, created a lot but wasted almost all and if they could not take the lead it is more difficult for them anyway. With their offensive style of play they are always susceptible for counter attacks. Because I mentioned already in some write-ups that Bremen plays only with one man on central midfield and this is perhaps the reason for their inconsistency in the defensive. But what to mentioned, they have again big problems because with Prödl and Sokratis are both central back out and Schaaf has to change anyway. Also offensive wing de Bryne got injured in training and is doubtful. This is exactly what I tried to mediate.

Gladbach found back to their form and looked good in the past matches while Bremen is on a huge downtrend. This means that the match is decided already for home side but I am not sure yet. Both teams have to change on some position what help only the opponent. With Marx Gladbach miss their central midfielder with suspension while Bremen has the complete central back out with suspension. This can lead to inconsistencies and stability may suffer too. Moreover, this game produced a lot of goals last and the signs are good that this is the case again this time. Both teams scored always this season, if Gladbach at home or Bremen on the road. This keeps use in a good position and with the offensive style from Bremen it is not absurd anyway. Gladbach is able to use the open space with counter attacks over their wings. It seems that Gladbach like the style from Bremen and can hurt them while Bremen must find the right balance first.     

Bayern München - Fortuna Düsseldorf

Nothing has changes so far in this case I copy paste only what I have wrote some weeks ago. I made this with both teams as the situation is the same anyway.

What to say about Bayern Munich, they are rolling and overcome all their opponents very easy. They play really one of their best season so far and they are very hard to crack and overall to beat. In offensive they are always able to create and score as well, it is very hard to hold them away and in this case they are always good for some goals. Defensive worked well too, as they conceded only 8 goals in their 24 matches so far. 2013 they did only concede a single goal in league matches and this is also a key fact for their success. The team looked very balanced and they are huge motivated. No major changes expected, It looks like that Coach Heynckes counts on his best eleven. Robben and Gomez are very angry with their situation and but more or less they are on bench again. But maybe Robben can get a chance because Müller had a very weak day against Hoffenheim and was the weakest of the Bayern team. If Bayern can play like in the past where they beat Fürth 2-0, Stuttgart 2-0, Mainz 3-0, Schalke 4-0 and Wolfsburg 2-0, Bremen 6-1 and Hoffenheim 1-0 I am very sure that they are more than able to overcome Düsseldorf as well. Only one missing with long term injured defender Badstuber.

Newcomer Düsseldorf is on a good way to avoid relegation or get in trouble because they are 9 points above the drop zone and therefore they are still without any problems. This is only because they can count on their excellent home strength so far. They lost only vs. Bayern Munich 0-5, VfL Wolfsburg 1-4 and FC Augsburg 2-3. But the last one was more or less unlucky as they made a lot of mistakes and decided this match almost self. If they continue like the past two matches at home I am sure that they are able to get something here too. According to their weak away performances they have to get back and collect a few points to be safe in the end. They were a bit unlucky against Schalke last weekend as they played not such bad, of course more defensive but why should they play more open or offensive on the road? This is their style and they drive very good with also in home matches where they count on fast counter attacks as well. It is therefore very surprising that they had to accept 2 goals by corner or free kick against Schalke. They showed no significant attention and let Schalke’s Defender Matip two times unguarded who could score so easily. The mentality and attitude of the team is fine, because they never give up and try to give all what is in their power.

Overall I can not imagine that Düsseldorf can stop Bayern Munich. Sure, they can maybe play as defensive as they can and build up a big wall but sooner or later they are beatable if the pressure getting higher and higher. Same happened when both faced in Esprit Arena but in the end Bayern won easy 5-0. So not to getting nervous if the result is tied longer, because Bayern is in great form and Coach Heynckes wants to count on the same lineup as they want to field against Arsenal in Champions league. So no major changes expected and they want to strive for new records. They have to continue their run and in almost all league matches they were able to win with 2 or more goals margin. Only last weekend they won only 1-0 in Hoffenheim but they were not so hungry for more. Additional they are very hard to beat in defensive and they keep many times a clean sheet and according to Düsseldorf’s problems in scoring they are far away that they can hurt Bayern here. Also I see a lot of problems for Düsseldorf’s defensive as the players are very large and Bayern’s wings are very quick and tricky. Although the Handicap is set very high I am very confident that they can overcome Düsseldorf very easy. If you are brave enough you can wait until the first 15 minutes and take it in running or maybe play AHC -2,5. I am on the safer option.

FC Schalke 04 - Borussia Dortmund

After a very long time without success, Schalke seems to be on the way back. I mentioned already that I am not a fan from Coach Keller but I must admit that he has probably achieved a turnaround. It was not very easy for him because with each bad performance or lost match he had huge headwind of the media. Launch was just the important Champions League game in Istanbul against Galatasaray who brought the turn. They had a very good performance on this day and it was more as deserved that they got a draw. Against Düsseldorf they played not so well and their problems in offensive were already huge but overall they managed to win this with two goals from defender Matip after free kicks. This victory has probably helped a lot that Coach Keller could work in peace and he prepared the team extremely well for Wolfsburg. This was one of the best performances from them in the past weeks / month. It was very good to see if they have a lot of space that they do much better because their fast wings Farfan / Bastos like this style of play but especially Draxler was outstanding as centrale man in midfield. He played very well and was one of the key facts to win this encounter very easy with 4-1. With two wins in a row they close the gap and they are more than capable to get this important fourth place.

So far it seems Dortmund has not a so good season as recently, they have a major gap to Bayern fighting with Leverkusen only for second place while knocked out of the Cup against Bayern already last week. The only weapon that is still hot, is the Champions League where they moved very confidently into the quarter-finals. This is the only title which they can reach this Season, the other competitions are already gone. Nevertheless they should not give up as the second place is very important for them in this case they still have to collect some points to safe their current place. Of course they are always able to win games with such a top offensive this should always be possible. And what they are able to bring showed they already under the week against Donezk. They played very well and allowed their opponent not much while on the other hand use almost all chance immediately. The only problem they face at the moment is the absent of important defender Hummels, also Kehl and Bender are doubtful for this match as they got injured on Tuesday. Therefore Coach Klopp has to change a bit and count on Sahin beside Gündogan but both are extreme similar in their style of play and this can be a small problem because one of them have to accept the defensive part as enforcer.

Very hot derby atmosphere expected where both teams want the win, just because of the fans but also not to endanger the output target of the season. It is very important to win this derby because you get a lot of credit by the fans and they forgive worse games easier. According to first match this season Dortmund wants to bounce back as they lost 1-2 in Signal Iduna Park where Schalke used their counter attacks very well while Dortmund missed a variety of top-class opportunities. Therefore it is actually not really surprising to see a lot of goals here as with so many excellent offensive players on the pitch who are all in good form a lot of opportunities should be created very easily. Additional both defensive rows are not in such form that they can stop or hold all the pressure far away. We can also consider that this is the fourth match for Dortmund in eleven days and certainly struggling with tiredness while Schalke plays only their second match in 7 days. This can help them additional and they should be much fresher and quicker as Dortmund at the end of the match. It can be the key anyway here too and decide this encounter.

1.FC Köln - SC Paderborn

The chance was there to close the gab but Köln was not able to win in Frankfurt against FSV. The draw was exatly what Lautern got at home against Bochum and therefore the 3 points are still there between both. But with a win today, they can put a lot of pressure on Kaiserslautern who plays at Braunschweig on monday evening. No one expecting that Köln does not win this one but Paderborn is very difficult to play on the road. They are much better away from home as in their own stadium. Maybe according to their players who loves more fast counter attacks as to be self in a situation to push.

Some changes must be made because with Lehmann suspended and Maierhofer flue they have two starters not available. Lehmann can be replaced by Strobl while Bröker gets the place from Maierhofer upfront beside Ujah. They want to push a lot and coach Stanislawski counts on two strikers then with 4-4-2 system. Against FSV played Bröker in midfield but this was not as good as he can and therefore they need a much more playable man there. This can be Jajalo or Bigalke but he was also not in form at least. One good thing too because with Maroh is one important man back from suspension.

Also Coach from Paderborn Schmidt has to change because with Saglik is their striker out with injury but he was not at his best level anyway. So no major lose in my eyes. He counts as well on a 4-4-2 system. Saglik can be replaced by young Hofmann but he showed already that he can score and work a lot for his team. Some problems more are in defensive because with Ziegler flue, Gulde muscle injury are both central back out while Palionis has not much praxis in the past. If Strohdiek gets not fit in the right time after flue must Feisthammel plays in central back while Zeitz moves back and plays also not on his normal position. Some options are there again with Wemmer but long time injured and shortly back in the squad. 

FC Augsburg - 1.FC Nürnberg

After an excellent run 2013 Augsburg is back in business and they are more than able to close the gab to place 15. They are 5 points ahead of place 16 but have also 6 points to place 15. If they can continue their run it is more as possible that they are able to close the gab and leave drop zone. Sure they need wins for this and they need it immediately and their opponents in their zone should not collect much as they have a chance. But overall they got a lot of self confidence and motivation back in their last matches also more stability in their play now. In winter break they talk only to reach place 16, this was their primary target but they reached it already and to hold the pressure on his team high said coach Weinzierl that he wants place 15 now. The situation is not the worst and they can walk on. Of course it was some luck included in their last matches because without this luck they have never started this run. To beginning they won in Düsseldorf, this was one of the key matches but with mega help from Fortuna keeper Giefer and defender Latka. Both players made gifts and gave 2 easy goals away with their mistakes.  But nevertheless Augsburg had again luck as the referee did not count a regular goal from Düsseldorf to tie this match. Against Schalke and Wolfsburg they were the better side but wasted a lot and got in both only a draw. Next one at home against Mainz draw again but more as lucky as Mainz scored a clear goal but not given by referee and after Mainz took the lead, Mainz got a red card and play the whole second half with 10 men, Augsburg played well but could only score the equalizer. In Leverkusen they lost while they won against Bremen but were only average and had also some luck again as Bremen had some good chances.

Almost same run from Nürnberg, 2013 they lost only one match and this was in Dortmund where they never had any chance. On the other side they are very positive 2013 but could only win one match so far, the others were all draws. They are not able to win matches but they are very hard to play in the past as their defensive worked better and better and in this case they are very hard to beat at the moment. Overall they are much better at the moment on the road as at home as they can sit back and count on their counter attacks where both wings are able to overcome their opponent because of their quickness. One more weapon they have is free kicks or corners from Kiyotake who is very dangerous in this matter. If I compare the last away matches I am very confident about Nürnberg, they had no problems with good team from Frankfurt who has a lot of offensive power but they were close to beat them, vs. Stuttgart they played also a bit better and equalized in second half deserved and had additional some chances to win this as well. They are just close to be rewarded for their effort, sooner or later. It is only a matter of time. Coach Wiesinger and Reutershahn did and do a great job so far.

Both teams are on a good run, both are in good form, both lost only one 2013, both are not known as scoring teams, both played many times draw. If you compare both teams recognize many similarities. Therefore it is very hard to predict this match for some but overall I see a light advantage for Nürnberg. Their past matches on the road and their good defensive style of play make me very confident to see them not losing this. Both teams have problems to score, Augsburg scored only one time more than one goal in the past and this was against weak Hoffenheim, of course Nürnberg the same but I have the idea that Augsburg at home has to push and invest much more and Nürnberg can use the space for counter attacks. Since Augsburg plays in 1.BL they never won against Nürnberg so far and if Nürnberg wants to hold the pressure away they should not lose this one otherwise Augsburg come closer. I like the matchup and Nürnberg very well today. GL

FC St. Pauli - Jahn Regensburg

It has changed a lot in the past month. As Regensburg won 3-0 against St. Pauli end of September they were 3 points ahead of them and were on a comfortable midfield place, on the other side St. Pauli was very close to drop zone. Before they face each other second time this season St. Pauli is 5 points away from drop zone now, sure not much but they are on a good way as 2 wins in a row in their past two matches showed. Their opponent Regensburg dropped off extremely and they are far away to avoid relegation. They need a winning streak now but overall if you consider the stats from many seasons they are already relegated. No team could bounce back with these numbers so far.

After St. Pauli’s second win in a row Coach Frontzeck mentioned that he wants to give the same starting eleven a chance again. Although he had to change some in defensive above all in central back he was very pleased with these guys and their performances. In this case Thorandt, Kalla and Avevor are in starting lineup again while central back Mohr has to wait for his action and is on bench first. One good message arrived as well as with Boll their captain is back after some problems but he is not ready for 90 minutes and therefore on bench but good to know they have someone in back. All the other injured players are not available yet. They are not ready or 100% fit and they want to take no risk with Buchtmann, Bartels and Schnidler. For which reason Frontzeck has some problems in central midfield, he must count on Thy again but he made not the best performance last match on this for him unusual position.

Bottom team Regensburg has already seven points to saving zone and this put under huge pressure as they must win or start winning now if they want to hold their aim from 2.Bundesliga alive. Coach Smuda could not stabilize the team much as under his former coaches. Maybe because of not many alternatives he has in squad or lack of quality and attitude. It was almost a big point against neighbor Sandhausen last weekend but they failed huge and put them in a very bad position anyway. With Carlinhos they maybe miss their scorer from the last goals with flue. If he is not available Weidlich can be an option for him while Koke gets the place upfront before top scorer Sembolo and Djuricin.

Fortuna Düsseldorf - FSV Mainz 05

A lot to talk about Mainz as coach Tuchel gave some attacking surface with his interview under the week where he mentioned that his team was disadvantaged too much in some matches in the past. But nevertheless there are again to discuss a few actions and decisions from referee after they knock out of the cup against Freiburg on Tuesday. They lead till minute 85. 2-0 but conceded two late goals and lost in extra time 2-3. Their start was very good and they scored twice but after their lead more and more Freiburg controlled the game and if they had not waste so much they should have rewarded earlier in this match. On the other side they were a bit unlucky as right back wing got a red card and they had to play more than 30 minutes with one man less. This help Freiburg a lot and Mainz could only defend and were not able to get dangerous again. With this match they lost a lot of power but the resting days should be enough to recover. The only problem they have that their performance away from home are not so good or better they got not the results so far. With only 3 wins they are one of the weaker sides there as they could only win against weak home teams like Wolfsburg and Fürth while Frankfurt was a derby for them and additional an exception.        

Overall I see this a bit different as the bookmakers, they put Mainz as favorite but I mentioned it already that they are not an away monster with their 3 wins only. Sure they are close to Top 6 and have some class in their rows but I doubt that they can overcome easily a team who has their strength more at home. Düsseldorf is more known as fighting team where each player put everything in order to succeed. With their defending style they try to hold the opponent away or give less space but if they have the ball they look for fast and good counter attacks to hurt Mainz, of course. They got one important weapon back with their top scorer Kruse who was out vs. Schalke with flu. On the other side Mainz invested a lot in the past matches where they were either one man more or less (less against Augsburg, more against Wolfsburg, less against Freiburg) on the pitch additional the 120 minutes in Cup. All these games cost a lot of energy which can affect the tiredness of some players. Unfortunately, this can not be compensated easily, since the possibilities of changes are limited. Over should be also an option as I expecting Mainz to score as well as their offensive looked not so bad with Szalai, Parker, Müller, Ede or Ivanschitz. GL
